People often ask us "SVS's are supposed to be good on
Home Theater... are they good on music too??" To
which we have always given a resounding "Yes".
After all, all the designers at SVS cut their teeth on
music long before "home theater", so we know how to make
bass sound right on both. From the start, this sub
was intended as more proof of just that. While it
gives up only a bit of max-headroom to its more powerful
PB2-Plus brother, it's perfect for more
moderately-sized
rooms -- and anyone wanting a sub that
will be incredibly accurate on music (which rarely has
the requirements for ultra low or ultra loud bass home
theater is famous for). While music
demands are frequently less challenging to the
"guts" of the best subwoofers, the complex
dynamic range recorded into today's high resolution
audio sources means you want to "over build". Who
wants a subwoofer with intrusive "limiters" or one that
runs out of "headroom" when the sonic attacks get really
demanding?
This
sub is overbuilt by design. With 1" enclosure
walls, tough but attractive textured black finish and a
trio of patented 3" ports (user adjustable of course!)
we didn't cut any corners coming up with this "baby"
PB2. While the competition in this price class
typically gets by with a single 12" or 15" woofer, a
middling amount of power or tiny enclosures (the bane of
clean and powerful bass) --- we stuffed TWO of our
superlative ISD woofers in with an amp that's very
conservatively rated at 600 watts. And there's
nothing tiny about this sub; it's staggeringly efficient
to keep up with the most "musical" main speakers.
The result? When other subs are straining on live
concert music, lopping off whole octaves from your
recordings, or simply sounding boomy and un-natural,
THIS sub isn't breaking a sweat.
